Welcome to the Reffing Line Up. This is where you go when you get yourself to become an approved ref.
Sub-Sections
Lets start off with the basics of getting yourself as an Approved Referee. You can still ref around this ASB if you’re not an Approved Ref, but you will not get a paycheck every week or two. All you have to do is ref a mock battle posted in this topic. Use your imagination in interpreting attacks as long as the interpretations make sense. Also when you ref, there is no such thing as an OHKO (One Hit Knock Out). Also be reasonable when calculating damage and status effects like having Splash doing over 20% damage and causing paralysis when it does close to nothing at all (By the way, if I see something like that happen, I’ll have your head.).
On a side note, moves that usually take two actions in the game are usully just a one action thing eg, dig, Hyper Beam, Solar beam, Sky Attack, Fly etc. But it's up to you. Also any Pokemon that has wings can fly whether it learns the move or not plus it can fly in the air and hover without attacking.
The Head Referees of this tower will be lenient when it comes to interpretations but they’ll beat you down if the damage or effect is not reasonable and/or doesn’t agree with your reffing. Here is an example of a reffing to get an idea of how its done, but its highly suggested that you use your own style, format, and judgment when you ref.
Here's an example of a reffing:
Intro
Freely, use flash..... Ah that's better, now we can all see.
Welcome all to the infamous Hidden delta, which we found...so... I..... guess it's not so hidden anymore ^_^; anyway, this awesome arena is filled with unmeasurably(Is that a word?) deep water out of which are sparce trees that grow up slightly then horizontaly across, creating a link from tree to tree, but they can't support any Pokemon heavier than 150 lbs (about 68 kg I think). About 15 metres above the trees is a solid roof blocking out the sky. Weather conditions are obsolete in here so don't bother using them. Let's get this party started shall we, Sealitoed, the challengee will release her Pokemon first then Eenaito with attacks then Sealitoed attack. I'll be reffing from this tree, over her ok *points to a tree growing alot taller than the others, well out of the way*
Pre Battle
Both trainers are at the ready and toss Pokeballs simultaneously. Sealitoed's female Ralts appears on a branch, close to the trunk, while Eenaito's Male Masquerain materialises several metres away, hovering over another tree. Both Pokemon recieve their commands and.......
Gardie: Psychic~Confusion~Thunderbolt.
Kee-Rien: Double Team~Flash~shadow Ball/Silver Wind
Round 1
Kee-rien starts early by flitting back and forth quickly to create 3 clones. The four bugs spread their wings to show off their huge fake eyes and try to intimidate the little Ralts, but to no avail, as the psychic Pokemon sees straight through their ruse and pinpoints the only one with a mind then unleashes an attack on it. Kee-rien begins to glow with a bluish aura and winces, trying to shake the pain out of his head, unsuccessful. The Masquerain is unable to keep control of the clones and they disappear as Kee-rien collapses onto a branch.
Gardie can't help but smile as she thinks whos intimidated now and another blue aura surrounds the bug as he is lifted up and thrown back against another tree with a confusion attack, Kee-rien's mind is all foggy now and is not sure what to do, but somehow manages to charge up and let out a very bright Flash, which takes the ralts off guard and she hesitates for a moment, waiting for a little sight to return. Perfect thinks Kee-rien, as his mind clears and sees the dazzled Ralts, and quickly gathers together some ghostly energy into a small dark purple ball and launches it towards his opponent, hitting the little Ralts in the chest and entering her body, tormenting her badly. Not to be outdone, Gardie, even with blurred vision, begins to crackle as lightning courses through her body and is released towards her opponent, and a Thunderbolt shoots towards Kee-rien, narrowly missing the bug and hitting the above him, lucky and unlucky though, lucky because the majority of the attack missed, and unlucky because he was standing on the tree that was hit and the energy passes through him on it's way to the water below.
Round 1 Wrap up
Gardie [Ralts(F)] Health~ 80% - Energy~ 82% (Still slightly blinded, vision will return to full strength after next actions. Pains in the chest)
Kee-Rien [Masquerain(M)] Health~ 78% - Energy~ 84% (A little shocked but ok)
The two pokemon are both standing on trees, 15 metres apart. The tree Kee-Rien is on is a little black and smoking slightly.
If you would like to become a ref, post a reffing to the Mock Battle and the Head Referee will see if you are worthy.
Once you did a mock battle, you will become an approved ref if the mock reffing you made met certain requirements. The quality of reffing is unique, the interpretations made sense, and calculations made for damage and effects make sense and agree to your reffing. You will not be docked down if your interpretation was different from what the Head Ref(s) thought would happen. There are rankings given to you when you become an approved ref ranging from Novice to Experienced. Normally when you get approved the first time, it will vary from Novice to Rookie. You can only move up in ranking(Elite or Experienced) by being a good and active referee.
When you’re an approved referee, you will be paid a salary based on your activeness in reffing, quality, as well as many other things put into consideration for your pay. Approved Refs will be paid every week or two.
The Pay ranges from $10 - $15
Approved refs get paid on a weekly basis depending on how much and how good they have reffed during the week. Generally $10-$15 per week.
The Pay for the Head Ref(s) is a solid $15. So that means they do their job in this topic as well as doing reffing or receive no pay at all. I know, kinda strict but yeah.
If you want to get paid and make the Head/Approver Refs happy, you should post links in here to every battle you ref. This will help them determine your pay instead of paying you blindly. Just because you are a ref of a battle doesn't mean you get paid by just sitting around.
I know the mods aren't going to be happy to have to change names of topics every day or two. This is why there is the Battle Dome. All referees, approved and non-approved, should look in this topic periodically for battles to ref.
In the Battle Dome, once the Trainers have agreed in the topic with a set of rules, they must get a referee. Once the battlers get a referee, the referee (that's you) would make a topic with the names of both battlers (Ex: Shining Arcanine vs. Moltrecuno (ref: your name) ). After that, the battle will start off as usual.
In IM battles, just arrange them through IM and yeah. But there is one extra thing that the ref must do when they finish reffing before getting any pay from an IM battle. In the Quick Battle Topic, the referee must do the following:
- Post the trainers who fought - Who won and who lost the battle - How many Pokémon were used - What Pokémon were used by each trainer
Sleepy Wombat is in charge of the Quick Battle Topic and will keep record of any wins in an IM battle. If any fowl play is suspected from any battle post, the ref will be requested to show the log of that battle. So refs should save those IM battles for at least three days after the initial battle so nothing bad will come to them or the battlers. Check the Rules Tower or the Quick Battle Range to know more about prizes from an IM battle.
To people who have refs for their battles: These refs have a life and can't be fast when it comes to reffing each round. So I expect you to be patient or they'll be very grumpy people. They'll be required to post their reffing within the DQ time after the last attack post. If that is not met, battlers are allowed to post in the Emergency Squad Topic. But please, don't be hard on them for not reffing your battle.
